Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District Photos
Thursday, September 18, 2008
Anna Erickson and Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District Board Chairman Steve Hobart stand next to the site where Anna was born; when the Demonstration Forest was once farmland and her family owned a homestead there. The interpretive sign next to them was made by students at the Tri County Technical Center, with photos provided by Anna and by the Abbot and Monson Historical Societies, through a grant from the Project Canopy, Maine Forest Service and the Pine Tree State Arboretum. A grant from the Bureau of Parks and Lands will be providing for a new outdoor educational classroom and recreational pavilion adjacent to this site. This will be available for use by the public, schools and other organizations. For more information, please contact the PCSWCD at 564 - 2321, extension 3 or at info@piscataquisswcd.org. Participants at the Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District's Annual Open House learned about the cultural heritage of the region from local presenters Sonny Connors and Anna Erickson. They also learned about woodland aesthetics from Gordon Moore and Andy Shultz of the Maine Forest Service during a forest tour. The forest is open to the public for education and recreation. Visitors may take a self guided tour of the forest and see the new interpretive signs made by the Tri County Technical Center, the Greenville High School and Foxcroft Academy students. They may also find our hidden geocache site! Please contact the PCSWCD at 564 - 2321, extension 3 or at info@piscataquisswcd.org for more information.
