Sixth graders from the Piscataquis Community Middle School (PCMS) enjoyed a recent field trip to the Piscataquis County Soil and Water
Conservation District's Demonstration Forest in Williamsburg Plantation. Students hiked through the forest, stopping at natural resource learning
stations on Wildlife, Soils and Forestry. At the outdoor classroom they learned about Leaf and Tree Identification. Presenters included Allen
Starr of the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, Ron Olsen of the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, Gordon Moore of the
Maine Forest Service, and Diana Hobart and Rochelle Titcomb of the PCMS. The students also made an excursion to the Geocache site at the forest.
