Monday, December 22, 2008
BLANCHARD - Blanchard resident Steve Hobart was recently honored for his manyyears of service as president and national delegate of the Maine Association of Conservation Districts.

Hobart (left) presents a plaque to outgoing Treasurer Fred Hardy of New Sharon. Hobart will continue to be an asset as he remains on the National Association's forestry committee and is chair of the Maine Association's audit committee, public relations committee, and at one time the strategic planning committee.

An annual meeting was held earlier this month at the Black Bear Inn in Orono.

There were many actions taken by Maine's 16 Soil and Water Conservation Districts, however, there was an astounding unanimous passage of a resolution, initiated by Franklin County Soil and Water Conservation District (FCSWCD), calling for the Maine Department of Agriculture to be strengthened, not diminished, at a time when Maine's natural resource agencies are facing consolidation.
